I have a word document on this, hope it comes across, so to speak...

PS.  The instructions assume you are using a diagonal, from memory..

That is one for a refractor I think Pete.

It is slightly different for an SCT.

Still nice to have another drift alignment tut available.

ahh sorry made a mistake. Just read it differently. I have re-read it and I screwed up.

Meridan=move in the same direction
East = move in the opposite direction.

No probs.  It is a very handy article I reckon, maybe needs to be pinned.

Pete, if you use my Polar Alignment method you won't need to drift align

Thanks Ken, but I live in a light polluted city and those faint stars around the SCP are not visible mate..

No problems, it really does work well.  If you find the star is doing the opposite to what the instructions say, just do the reverse, if you know what I mean.  All it means is that there is one more/less bent pathway, and everything is 180deg out as a result. This will happen if you have no diagonal etc. Hope I make sense here.

It makes sense.
I use an diagonal on the refractor.
Never made it more than an minute exposure.
See how it goes tonight.

Meridan=move in the same direction
East = move in the opposite direction.
That's the easiest way to remember it I think.

I've been doing my eastern star for the last hour. I'm getting closer. I think I have been adjusting the mount in too small an increment.

Sometimes you have to give it a big rip, you will soon find out if you have gone too far.  If you have, go back in the reverse direction half as much, and so on..

Yep done mine tonight. 12 minutes on the meridian and 9 minutes on the eastern. Close enough for a schmuck planetary imuger.

That is the way I remember Stu.

what do you mean by 12mins?
12 mins in the center of the crosshairs or in the FOV?
